RICO ABREU TO DRIVE NEW TQ MIDGET AT AC AND TRENTON EVENTS
California sensation Rico Abreu confirmed he’ll be racing a TQ-Midget for the first time when the winter Indoor Racing Series comes to Atlantic City, N.J. on January 28 – 29, 2016.
Abreu has accepted a ride offered to him by former Atlantic City winner Lou Cicconi.
Abreu, a proven winner in Sprint Car and Midget competition on dirt speedways across the country, was accepted into the NASCAR development driver program this season. The popular 23-year-old, who is small in size, raced pavement Late Models and on the NASCAR K&N Series in 2015. In July, he won his first K&N race and finished the year fifth in points.
While it was just announced that he’ll compete in a NASCAR Camping World Truck series race this weekend in Phoenix, Ariz., in the No. 31 Chevrolet Silverado, Abreu told AARN he expected to focus again on dirt next year.
In Atlantic City, Abreu will be driving a brand new TQ-Midget designed by ISMA Supermodified championship builder/car owner Jim Bodnar and built for Cicconi by BJ MacDonald. While Rico’s schedule will not allow him to run the Indoor Series opener on January 2 in Allentown, Pa.
Abreu said he also plans to compete in the TQ event in Trenton, N.J., on Friday and Saturday nights February 26-27.
Abreu will made his Truck Series debuts at Phoenix International Raceway this past weekend. He will drove the No. 31 Chevrolet for NTS Motorsports, with sponsorship from AccuDoc Solutions and was unfortunately knocked out of the event from and early accident.
